Why Casa Supports Proof of Keys
Owning and managing your keys is important for your personal sovereignty and safety.
We are strong believers that if you are not managing your cryptographic keys, you don’t really own your Bitcoin. In the future, this rule will apply to all data and wealth.
Not your keys, not your Bitcoin.
Not your keys, not your Data.
Not your keys, not your Wealth.
With all of this in mind, we are supporting Proof of Keys, a growing movement to reclaim your keys and your data from third party companies. Proof of Keys is being celebrated on January 3rd, 2019, the anniversary of the Bitcoin Genesis Block.
Proof of Keys was first put forward by Trace Mayer, and stands as both a stress test for the fundamental ideals of Bitcoin and an educative message on the importance of owning your own keys.
Allowing third parties to hold your private keys means you are trusting that entity with every card in your hand. You trust them not to get hacked. You trust them to remain regulation-proof. You trust them not to act maliciously in any way — and those are just the tip of the iceberg.
Managing keys can be pretty daunting, but you shouldn’t have to sacrifice safety to achieve personal sovereignty.
That’s why Casa exists. We want to enable everyone to achieve maximum personal sovereignty and safety, and it is our belief that owning your own keys is a prerequisite to getting there.
